David's February Update

Jesus asked, "Do you see anything?"
He looked up and said, "I see people;
they look like trees walking around."
-Mark 8:23b-24

Hello, friends!

    Thank you so much for your financial and prayerful support. I hope this month's ministry update finds you well. We got through February in North Texas without an ice storm, which is pretty miraculous. But God isn't just sustaining the weather, so let's look at some other things he's been doing this month.

Pizza Theology

Each semester, all of the FOCUS campuses get together for 2 hours of lecture, 1 hour of pizza, and another 2 hours of lecture. We call it Pizza Theology. This semester's topic was about Bible translation, canonization, inspiration, and interpretation. It really blessed our students!

Family Night

Once each year, we invite families of students to join us for TNF (Thursday Night Fellowship) so they can see what their students do every week, and so we can thank them for raising amazing young men and women. It was so neat to meet the parents of some of the guys I get time with regularly! And I thought it was funny to take a picture of TNF while the slides had pictures of TNF. TNF-ception.

Core

This semester, our core has a few goals: reading and engaging with Scripture during core, listening to others during core, and building relationships outside of core. In all three directions, we are growing! Reading Scripture and listening have been easier than I had expected, while building relationships outside of core has been harder than I had anticipated (though, not bad). It's easy to have everyone in the group feel like they are friends with me (and the other leader, Andrew), but to get them to have one-on-one time with one another is outside of my control. Andrew and I have deputized them to plan events and arrange hang-outs to try to encourage this. For instance, Connor (darkly lit in the background of the picture) planned a bowling night and invited everyone in core! We had lots of fun together.

Collin Staff

I love my team! They are very sharp, kind, and they love students well.
