David's September Update

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
Psalm 8:1-2

Hello, friends!

If it were up to me, September would be month 7. But I don't make the rules. I do make disciples, though. Here's an update on the ministry of the 9th month of our year. Thank you so much for supporting and praying for me!

Core is the Central Middly Part of our Ministry:

Top: a picture of our third week's core

Bottom: guys from core take a picture at Andy's Frozen Custard to make me feel jealous that I wasn't there

I suppose our core started in August, not September, but now I have pictures. We like to say that core is the core of our ministry, because it is true. It's too easy for a disciple to become siloed off in a single discipleship relationship. I know that it's easy for me to think that I only have one mentor. In a core, a web of disciple relationships are formed. There are many friends to be known by and to know. It's been neat seeing the guys share with one another, to accept and encourage each other, both in core and outside of it. I can't wait to see where the relationships go!

Outreach at Collin College Frisco:

Every week, we set out a table with an invitation to have spiritual conversation. Students in our ministry get to practice discussing their faith, asking faith questions of their peers and sharing the gospel. Ultimately, outreach happens not just once a week at a table but every day in all sorts of places. My students tell me of interactions in their classes and in stores and at home where they have spiritual conversations with their neighbors, using the skills they develope at the table.

That's One Way to Make a Disciple:

Meet Shayna Lynn Maynard! At the time of my writing this update, Shayna is about 2 weeks old and doing very well. She toots a LOT and loves to say hi by sticking her tongue out. Alex is recovering very well from the labor and C-section. Thank you so much for praying for us! God was in the hospital keeping watch the whole time, and he'll be keeping watch over Shayna her whole life too.
