Strongly Suggested Sabbath - January Ministry Update

He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,'

and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'

So that everyone he has made may know his work,

he stops all people from their labor.

-Job 37:6-7

Whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed,

and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open...

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!"

Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

-Mark 4:22, 39

Hello, my partners and friends!

January was an interesting month for the ministry, and a big blessing from God. We're out of it for now, but January had a lot of covid and a lot of covid scares. Many of my roommates got it, my girlfriend got it, a couple more friends around me got it. For many of them, it was a sort of forced break from God. For me, well, I got stressed! I really didn't want to miss Winter Camp if I could help it. Little did I know that God was wanting the same thing for me: to be at peace and to rest and to acknowledge that he, not me, was and is in control.
Also, I'm sorry for sending my update letter later than I usually do. Thanks for being patient!

Winter Camp:

Winter Camp was so amazing! The top picture are some members from my core that got to come (including a guy also named David who is relatively new. I'm so excited for him!), and the bottom is Joey taking the empty boxes that once had the leftover pizza from our first dinner. Imagine how many pizza boxes it took to feed the 500-ish people the first time around!
Rikk Watts, a professor from Regent College, came down from Canada like a dove and taught us about the historicity of the gospels, why historical context matters, why history respects individuals, etc. I've heard so many students reference the teaching in the following weeks! It was certainly impactful and we were very thankful to have him.

Apprenticeship:

The apprentices got to play whirlyball this past month (when we unexpectedly had free time in common because of a rescheduled staff retreat) and it was super fun! I'm really thankful for this group of people. I really enjoy getting to take classes together and share in ministry across the various campuses. Thank God for people like these, and especially for these people!

Collin FOCUS:

We're off to a great start! This is a picture of one of our first TNF's (Thursday Night Fellowship) of this semester. We're starting a series called Live No Lies, inspired by the book of the same name by John Mark Comer, with messages built around specific lies that we believe (ex: I am independent and am responsible for no one but me) and the truths to combat them (ex: We are one body, one people, and God is saving a people, not simply individuals). The messages have been really impactful so far, and I'm excited to see how they move the community.
